Courtney Love seeks plea bargain in case

BEVERLY HILL, Calif., July 30 (UPI) -- Courtney Love's attorney said the rock singer wants to strike a plea bargain in her California felony drug possession case in hopes of avoiding prison.

Love was in a Beverly Hills, Calif., court Thursday for allegedly possessing hydrocodone and oxycodone without a valid prescription, charges that carry a maximum sentence of three years, eight months in a state prison, E! Online reported Friday.

Love, who pleaded innocent to the charges, reportedly is ready to plead guilty or no contest if prosecutors reduce the felony possession charges to misdemeanors, E! Online said.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney has not commented on whether a deal is in the works.

Love is due back in court Aug. 16 to be arraigned on a separate assault charge, at which time she could make a plea bargain in the drug possession case.

Love was sentenced Tuesday in a separate case to 18 months of drug rehabilitation.
