NEW YORK, July 4 (UPI) -- Pete Best, the original drummer for The Beatles, who missed out on worldwide fame and fortune, is a drummer again on a U.S. tour.
After Best was dumped and replaced by drummer Ringo Star decades ago, Best worked in a bakery and than had a 20-year career as an employment officer with the British civil service, reported the New York Post.
"I just got some old friends from the Merseybeat days to get up and have a jam with me, and the audience went wild," Best told the Post.
After what was supposed to be a one-shot performance, Best ended up on the road for six months in a band made up of friends from Liverpool, England, playing classic rock 'n' roll tunes from the early Beatles' repertoire, and a few Beatles hits.
As part of the show, Best takes questions from the audience and one quesiton gets asked again and again.
"Everyone wants to know is, 'Do you know the real reason why you were kicked out?' And of course the answer is, no I don't," he said.
The band said his drumming was wanting.
