'South Park' DVD mocks 'Passion'

NEW YORK, May 17 (UPI) -- A collection of religious-themed "South Park" episodes is set for release just as Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ" comes out on DVD.

Comedy Central is releasing a special three-episode "South Park" to coincide with the Aug. 31 release of "The Passion," the New York Post reported Monday.

The DVD includes this season's "The Passion of the Jew," as well as "Red Hot Catholic Love" and "Christian Hard Rock," The Post said

Although "The Passion of the Jew" mocks Gibson's movie, "South Park" series co-creator Matt Stone has admitted he has never even seen it.

"I saw the last half hour from a bootleg DVD in South Central," he told Page Six.

His partner, Trey Parker, watched "The Passion" in its entirety, but Stone said, "I never got around to it."

Parker said he didn't like the part he saw.

"If what you wanted to watch was Jesus getting beaten up for the last 12 hours, it was well done," he said.

Noting Gibson seems drawn to tortured characters, Stone said, "I bet Gibson wanted to play Jesus until he realized he's too old and not Semitic-looking enough."
