NEW YORK, May 17 (UPI) -- Thanks to distributor Lions Gate Films, "A Slipping Down Life," a film Guy Pearce worked on six years ago, has finally been released.
Made before Pearce shot to fame in the films "Memento" and "The Time Machine," "A Slipping Down Life" is based on Anne Tyler's novel and directed by "Sopranos" co-star Toni Kalem.
The independent film, which opened Friday in New York and Los Angeles, is about an awkward young woman (Lili Taylor) and the singer (Pearce) with whom she becomes obsessed. It premiered at the 1999 Sundance Film Festival.
"It got kind of held up in a political bind," Pearce told UPI. "There was a sort of situation where someone took the film off Toni and wanted to re-work it and release a different version and, of course, we all said, 'No!' So, therefore, it got stuck in a stalemate because no distributor wanted to buy a movie that the director and stars weren't going to promote. So, it's kind of been sitting there for all of this time."
Asked if he would take the part if it was offered now instead of six years ago, Pearce said he would because he is still so passionate about the film.
