Wilson to release first album in 6 years

LOS ANGELES, April 16 (UPI) -- Brian Wilson's first new studio album in six years, "Gettin' in Over My Head," will be released June 22 by Rhino Records, the Hollywood Reporter said.

The set features guest appearances by Eric Clapton, Elton John, Van Dyke Parks and Paul McCartney, and includes a duet with his late brother Carl Wilson.

The album features many songs that Brian Wilson had worked on earlier but had not yet completed, including the title track and "Desert Drive," which are taken from a mid-1990s collaboration with producer Andy Paley.

Wilson is currently in the studio working on the final version of "Smile," the never-released planned follow-up to the Beach Boys' 1966 "Pet Sounds."

Originally titled "Dumb Angel," the album's making precipitated Wilson's infamous nervous breakdown. Although ultimately scrapped as a project, some of the recordings were used to create 1967's "Smiley Smile."
