Brit singer Morrissey set for U.S. tour

NEW YORK, April 6 (UPI) -- Ex-Smiths' singer Morrissey plans to tour heavily in the United States to support his new album out May 18, Pollstar reported Tuesday.

Morrissey has scheduled five shows in a row at The Wiltern in Los Angeles from April 22-27, followed by five shows at New York City's Apollo Theatre on May 3,4,6-8.

Tickets for the five Los Angeles dates reportedly sold out within an hour, the fastest sellout ever for the Wiltern.

The British singer also plans to stop in Las Vegas and Anaheim, Calif., for single performances, and he has been confirmed to headline Lollapalooza. Dates for the two-day traveling festival have not yet been announced.

Morrissey will also tour throughout Europe, with a gig as artistic director set for the 12th annual Meltdown Festival June 11-27 at London's South Bank Centre and a performance at the Carling Reading festivals August 28-29.

Morrissey's new album, "You Are The Quarry," is set for release by Sanctuary Records' revamped imprint, Attack.
