BBC airs Who star's child porn arrest

LONDON, March 22 (UPI) -- A new BBC documentary shows police humiliating Pete Townshend following the veteran rock guitarist's 2003 arrest in Britain for viewing child pornography.

Footage of Townshend's police interview is the first part of a three-part series titled "Police Protecting Children" airing Tuesday in Britain, the BBC reported Monday.

The broadcast shows "a living legend reduced to being asked if he has learning difficulties", said Bob Long, who produced the series. "It's a big leveler."

Long's film team was there when The Who guitarist was arrested in January 2003. Townshend, 58, admitted looking at the Web site for research purposes only and was released with a caution and placed on the sex offenders register.

"In a way I wish we hadn't filmed Townshend, because he takes away from the real pornographers," Long said. "But he serves as a cautionary tale: Don't be tempted to look at child porn because your life might be ruined."
