Jane Fonda gets a feel of slum life

BOMBAY, March 11 (UPI) -- Hollywood actress Jane Fonda Wednesday visited Asia's largest slum -- Dharavi, India -- and mingled with people living in tin and cardboard shanties.

Fonda, who was in Bombay to take part in "The Vagina Monologues" play, also visited the Sneha crisis center that helps abandoned women.

"I'm very happy to see the way this center is run," the fitness guru told the crowd.

Fonda, 66, said she hoped her involvement in the play would send a message against the exploitation of women and girls in India.

"The Vagina Monologues" explores female sexuality and strength through a series of vignettes.

"I have fame, money and success but behind the closed door of my marriages I've always given up my power to please the man I was with," Indo Asian News Service quoted Fonda as saying.
