New CD, tour for Prince

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- Prince has announced he will simultaneously release a new CD and head out on his first U.S. tour in six years in March.

Prince held a news conference in Los Angeles Tuesday to play the jazz-infused title track from "Musicology" and discuss the tour, Billboard reported Wednesday.

The tour, which will launch March 29 in Los Angeles and wrap June 12 in Bossier, La., may be the last time fans will hear classic tunes, Prince said, because he wants "to make room for new music."

The singer also said he would like to provide free "Musicology" CDs to concert ticket buyers.

"Usually the people who purchase concert tickets, they've been supportive of my music for a long time, for over 20 years now," he said.

Prince, who currently is without a record deal, said he plans to let fans download tracks from the new CD from his NPG Music Club Web site, with members paying 77 cents per song and non-members paying 99 cents.

Prince will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 16 in New York.
