PRAGUE, Czech Republic, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- A $15.7 million museum devoted to the surrealist art of Salvador Dali is being planned for downtown Prague, capital of the Czech Republic.
American architect Daniel Libeskind has been chosen to design the museum, it was announced Wednesday.
Libeskind saw the site for the museum Sunday and accepted the commission for its design, according to the announcement. He will return to unveil a model of his design on May 11, the 100th birthday anniversary of the Spanish painter who died in 1989. It is the first commission Libeskind has taken on since creating the master plan for renewal of the World Trade Center site in New York City.
The museum, which is expected to be completed in 2007, will display some 1,500 examples of Dali's work in the areas of painting, printmaking, film, fashion, advertising, and photography on loan from collections in Spain, France, and Germany. There already are two other Dali museums in the world -- one in Figueras Spain, his birthplace, and the other in St. Petersburg, Fla.
