Ellen DeGeneres back in Hollywood's favor

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- With a hit show on the air, Ellen DeGeneres said she again feels loved after years of rejection by Hollywood that peaked when ABC cancelled her sitcom.

Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks, Britney Spears and Gwyneth Paltrow are among the A-list stars who have frequented "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," resulting in approval from fans and critics, ABC's Web site reported Friday.

"Right now, I feel the love. And it's amazing," DeGeneres said, referring to her new wave of success. "I'm riding it. I'm holding on to that surfboard. You know 'cause I know what this business is. It can also go away,"

DeGeneres' enthusiasm is a drastic upturn from the late 1990s when her professional and private lives were deteriorating.

The downward spiral began when DeGeneres, who starred in the popular sitcom "Ellen," decided to reveal her homosexuality on the show. A year later, ABC cancelled her show. She starred in a new sitcom, which also failed. During this period, DeGeneres started dating actress Anne Heche, a romance and subsequent break-up that was frequent tabloid fodder.

"It was bad ... and it was everything at once," said DeGeneres. "It was my career; it was a very public breakup."
