Kidman becomes 'Bewitched'

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 5 (UPI) -- Nicole Kidman has signed to star in "Bewitched" with Will Ferrell, ending month-long speculation.

Nora Ephron will direct the film for Columbia Pictures, reports Daily Variety. She has also written the script of the comedy based on the classic TV series about a man married to an attractive witch. Red Wagon's Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher will produce.

Kidman attached herself to the project, which starts shooting this summer, last year. But she also weighed other studio projects with strong female roles ready to go into production as soon as Kidman was released from Sydney Pollack's "The Interpreter" with Sean Penn. Among them was "Class Action" for Warner Brothers, to be directed by Niki Caro ("Whale Rider").

Waiting for her decision was tough.

"Once you imagine Nicole's talent and that perfect nose, it's hard to think of anyone else in the role", Wick said.

He and Fisher start shooting the Arthur Golden novel, "Memoirs of a Geisha," in September.
