HOLLYWOOD, Dec. 21 (UPI) -- The most shipped U.S. albums this year were 50 Cent's Aftermath/Interscope debut "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" and Outkast's "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below."
Daily Variety reported Sunday both tied for first place with six million copies shipped to retailers.
The Recording Industry Association of America said "Fallen" by Evanescence (Wind-up) was both the most-shipped rock album and the best selling debut album of the year, having shipped more than 3 million copies in the U.S.
"Get Rich or Die Tryin' " should win the top slot in sales as well when SoundScan releases its year-end tally in about two weeks.
To date, the disc has sold 6.4 million copies. Outkast's two-CD set has sold 2.4 million units, but is still in the top 10 a dozen weeks after its release.
During the year, Outkast's 2000 release "Stankonia" was certified quadruple platinum and "Atliens" was certified two times platinum. A platinum album is awarded when a disc hits 1 million shipped.
2Pac, meanwhile, remains the best selling hip-hop artist in history. His posthumous "Better Dayz" has been certified double platinum, and "Resurrection," the companion album from his biopic, has been certified platinum.
