Stars line up for Sting salute

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 9 (UPI) -- Tony Bennett, Elton John and Dave Matthews top the list of artists participating in the Feb. 6 gala tribute to honor Sting as MusiCare's Person of the Year.

Sting is being honored at the 2004 event for his work as a musician, humanitarian and environmental activist.

Other musicians participating in the concert include Black Eyed Peas, Elvis Costello, Dido, k.d. lang, Diana Krall, John Mayer and Rufus Wainwright, according to billboard.com.

Established in 1989 by the Recording Academy, MusiCares provides financial help to members of the music industry in times of need. Proceeds from the annual Person of the Year event benefit the foundation. Past recipients include Bono, Billy Joel and Elton John.

Sting, former lead singer of the band Police, also is scheduled to be honored Wednesday at the 2003 Billboard Music Awards where he will receive the Billboard Century Award.
