La Guardia screener fired over autograph

NEW YORK, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- A La Guardia Airport security screener was fired for seeking an autograph from "American Idol" singer Ruben Studdard.

"My fiancee is a big fan, she followed him all the way through and voted for him," Donsha Kelly told the New York Post Saturday. "So I thought she would kill me if I didn't get his signature."

But Kelly and his co-workers were told minutes before Studdard arrived that the star didn't want to give autographs.

"I was very apologetic and I told him my fiancee was a really big fan, and he said OK," Kelly said.

Kelly said his supervisor was angry after the June 7 incident, but he apologized and nothing more was mentioned until Friday, when he was let go.

"I think if Ruben knew about this he would think it was unfair," he said.

Studdard could not be reached for comment.
