Police search for missing kids in Ohio

TOLEDO, Ohio, July 14 (UPI) -- The search for two missing New Hampshire children shifted to Ohio as investigators used a helicopter to scour a 25-square-mile area near Toledo.

Investigators with the FBI and Ohio State Highway Patrol searched parks and open spaces in the Toledo area by air and on foot for seven hours but failed to find the children, 14-year-old Sarah Gehring and her 11-year-old brother, Philip, an FBI spokesman said.

"The search was unsuccessful,'' Special Agent Robert Hawk, of the FBI's Cleveland office, told the Boston Globe.

Authorities fear the children, who were last seen with their father at a fireworks display in Concord, N.H., on July 4, are dead.

Their father, Manuel Gehring, is the only suspect in the case, according to police.

He is being held in a Santa Clara County, Calif., jail. He is accused of being a fugitive from justice and interfering with child custody.
