DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, April 28 (UPI) -- Tajikistan is hosting a high-level meeting with top security authorities in a move to address ways to strengthen counter-terrorism efforts in the country.
The two-day meeting, backed by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe's Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, began Monday in Tajikistan's capital of Dushanbe. The meeting is designed to bring together the Tajik State Committee on National Security and the Interior Ministry to discuss violent extremism and radicalization with international security experts, the OSCE reported.
Officials said the meeting is part of an effort to develop more comprehensive counter-terrorism plans for Tajikistan and the Central Asian region while also maintaining international standards for human rights.
"There is a need to understand both the complex nature of the threat and the impact of different counter-terrorism measures in every country," Oliver Janser, counter-terrorism and police adviser to the OSCE office in Dushanbe, said in a statement.
"We are here to learn from each other by exchanging experiences and perspectives."
