Finmeccanica to provide communications for Australian PC-21 trainers

CHANGI, Singapore, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- Pilatus Aircraft has given a contract to Finmeccanica to supply airborne communication systems for 49 Australian Defense Force PC-21 trainer aircraft.

The Australian Defense Force recently acquired the PC-21 aircraft, which are designed for advanced pilot training. Under the contract, Finmeccanica will supply RT-700/A systems to provide voice and data communications for the trainers.

The RT-700/A systems, which are able to communicate in the 30-470MHz range, will be used as part of the Australian Defense Force's Project Air 5428, which supports a fixed-wing pilot training system.

In addition to supporting the Australian Defense Force, Pilatus previously selected Finmeccanica to equip PC-21 aircraft with communication systems for the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Singapore and Switzerland.
