VERNON HILLS, Ill., Jan. 16 (UPI) -- California-based Operation Homefront announced CDW Government's Defense Department business manager has been appointed to the non-profit's board of directors.
Illinois-based CDW-G, a subsidiary of CDW Corp., is an information technology solutions provider to government agencies. The company announced its U.S. Department of Defense business manager, retired Brig. Gen. John Howard, has been named to the U.S. military support organization's board of directors.
Officials say Howard has been selected to serve on Operation Homefront's policy committee in an initiative to increase the awareness of the organization's military aid efforts.
"As an organization committed to supporting the U.S. military community, Operation Homefront values the input of service members at every level of leadership," Amy Palmer, Operation Homefront vice president of operations, said in a statement. "Brig. Gen. Howard provides us with a rare combination -- a proven commitment to armed forces philanthropy and an unmatched knowledge of both the military and civilian sectors of government. His unique perspective will be a valuable asset as we expand the scope of our efforts into 2008 and beyond."
Operation Homefront officials say Howard was selected to join the board of directors to help shape the organization's public policy initiatives and increase the group's military coalitions among other initiatives.
"After serving two tours of duty in Vietnam, I appreciate first-hand the benefit of enabling soldiers to stay in touch with their families back home," Howard said. "Joining Operation Homefront's board of directors provides me with the perfect opportunity to support an organization committed to aiding the families of our men and women in uniform."
