BEIRUT, Lebanon, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- Lebanon's military has received $50 million in vehicles, guns and ammunition from the United States, the U.S. Embassy in Beirut announced Tuesday.

The shipment to Beirut's port included 50 armored Humvees, 40 Howitzer field artillery pieces, 50 MK-19 grenade launchers and 1,000 tons of ammunition, including small, medium and heavy artillery rounds, the embassy said in a statement.

The shipment showcases America's commitment in helping the country's military defend against extremist threats, the embassy said.

The United States provided more than $221 million to Lebanon's security forces so far this year, the embassy said.

Lebanon is the fifth-largest recipient of U.S. foreign military financing.
