U.S. Army's Stryker to get 30mm cannon upgrade

WASHINGTON, May 10 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army announced the modification of an existing contract Friday that will see General Dynamics Land Systems receive roughly $329 million for a 30mm cannon upgrade for the branch's Stryker Infantry Carrier Vehicle.

The contract includes production, logistics, product development and test support for the upgrade, according to the Pentagon.

Work will be done at General Dynamics' Sterling Heights, Mich., headquarters, and is expected to be completed by January 2021.

Friday's contract announcement follows a January Pentagon announcement that the company was receiving a roughly $75 million, cost-plus-fixed fee, undefinitized contract for the design and integration of a 30mm cannon on the Stryker platform.

That contract called for construction of eight Stryker prototypes.
