Australia orders Elbit's thermal weapon sights

The Australian military has ordered thermal weapon sights from Elbit Systems Australia.

HAIFA, Israel, April 20 (UPI) -- Elbit Systems Australia is to supply the country's military with high-performance thermal weapon sights under a Departent of Defense contract.

The award, worth about $30 million, is for the company's XACTth65 sights, which weigh slightly less than 15.9 ounces.

"Australia is a very important market for Elbit Systems, and we are very proud to be awarded this contract, bringing this new capability and introducing technologically advanced, battle-proven and networked solutions to the Australian defense force," said Bezhalel (Butzi) Machlis, president and chief executive officer of parent company Elbit Systems Ltd of Israel.

The contract was issued by Australia's military as part of project Land 125 phase 3c. Deliveries will take place over a two-year period, Elbit Systems said.
