U.S. Navy receives 200th anti-submarine warfare helicopter

OWEGO, N.Y., Nov. 14 (UPI) -- The U.S. Navy has received its 200th Sikorsky Aircraft MH-60R submarine-hunting helicopter with advanced mission systems and sensors by Lockheed Martin.

The aircraft was delivered by Lockheed Martin to the Navy's Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron Seven-Two.

"We are proud to continue supporting the U.S. Navy by delivering a multi-role aircraft with a game-changing sensor suite that shifts the advantage from the submarine to the helicopter," said Dan Spoor, vice president of Aviation and Unmanned Systems for Lockheed Martin's Mission Systems and Training business. "As surface and submarine warfare becomes increasingly complex, the MH-60R's capabilities are unmatched in identifying, locating, tracking and prosecuting these threats."

The MH-60R is based on the UH-60 Black Hawk and features a modular capability -- the weapon systems it carries can be modified to match specific mission requirements. Its mission systems compile data from onboard and offboard sensors to create an integrated picture that enhances decision-making.

In addition to its anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare roles, the MH-60R can also perform search-and-rescue, vertical replenishment, naval surface fire support and other missions.

The Navy plans for a fleet of 291 MH-60R helicopters.
