ARLINGTON, Va., April 16 (UPI) -- A mobile application for use with Google Glass devices for geospatial intelligence data collection and photo reporting has been announced by BAE Systems.
GXP Xplorer Snap app, which can also be used with smartphones and tablets, allows quick snapping of pictures and reporting of details by voice. The report is automatically geo-tagged, time-stamped, and uploaded to a GXP Xplorer server and shared with others, the company said.
“This simple, wearable technology will revolutionize situational awareness and incident response capabilities for police, fire, and other first responders,” said DeEtte Gray, president of BAE Systems’ Intelligence & Security sector. “The technology benefits pilots by delivering imagery and mission critical data directly through the hands-free device.”
BAE systems said the application is a companion application to its GXP Xplorer data discovery and management application, which streamlines image analysis workflow.
The GXP Xplorer Snap mobile app is expected to be released for Google Glass later this year. According to BAE Systems a similar version of the application is available for download in the Apple App Store and Google Play marketplace.
BAE introduced the system at the United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation’s annual GEOINT Symposium in Florida.
