Israel Aerospace Industries reports it is supplying special surveillance vehicles to an unidentified customer to support gas pipeline security.

The vehicle is the Granite, a tactical intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance platform developed for military use. It will feature ELM-2105 X-band motion detection radar from the company’s ELTA Systems subsidiary, day and night electro-optical sensors and a net-centric command-and-control system for mobile monitoring.

“This unique security and protection configuration allows for an optimal coverage of a long sector of more than 100 km (62.1 miles) of pipeline,” IAI said. “The Granite vehicles can be tasked to simultaneously cover different and varying segments of the pipeline and provide a rapid intervention force as required.”

IAI said “several” vehicles would be supplied to its customer and that the contract has a multi-million dollar value.

"The unique configuration we tailored for this customer, which includes mobile on-the-move surveillance and intervention forces, connected to a central command-and-control center, creates an optimal and cost-effective solution for the protection of long segments of pipeline" said an IAI ELTA marketing executive.
