CANBERRA, Australia, March 3 (UPI) -- Australia's military and Lockheed Martin Australia have signed an agreement to collaborate on technology development.
The agreement between the Defense Science and Technology Organization and Lockheed Martin Australia is for 10 years and was inked by Dr. Alex Zelinsky, DSTO's chief defense scientist, and by Raydon Gates, chief executive of Lockheed's Australian subsidiary, the Department of Defense said.
"This 10-year agreement with Lockheed Martin Australia reaffirms DSTO's commitment to enter into long-term partnerships with industry for enhancing Australia's current and future defense capability," Zelinsky said. "As Lockheed Martin Corp. is a significant global player in the security, aerospace and information technology markets, there are many opportunities for collaboration.
"We have agreed to undertake joint research in a range of areas including predictive logistics, trusted assurance, the Aegis combat system, over-the-horizon radar, hyper-sonics and operational analysis," he said.
The alliance is the latest teaming by DSTO, which has similar arrangements with Thales, Saab Australia, ASC and IBM.
