Magal Security announces new awards

YAHUD, Israel, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- Israel's Magal Security Systems Ltd. said Thursday it has received $8 million in contracts to help improve security at correctional facilities in North America.

The largest award, worth $5.2 million, was for duress systems for prisons located in the United States, which are used to provide a safe working environment for prison staff.

Under the award from an unidentified customer, Magal will upgrade the systems at 11 sites and install its latest command-and-control displays and new systems at eight other sites.

Magal said another $1 million in orders were received for projects to secure the perimeters of two prisons in Canada -- the first with Magal's fence-mounted system, and the second with Magal's buried cable volumetric sensor.

Meanwhile, a $1.2 million award was received for a long-term video archiving system as an upgrade to a CCTV system Magal installed last year in the Port of Mombasa, Kenya.

Additional contracts were received to protect two critical sites in Israel, the company said, but additional details were not provided.

"We are encouraged by the strong start to 2014," said Magal's President and Chief Executive Officer Eitan Livneh said. "We are always pleased to receive follow-on orders from existing customers who trust our commitment to continuous product and technology improvement."
