Vario-Ray weighs less than 8.6 ounces and can be attached to small arms of all types by means of a Mil-Std 1913 rail. It is remotely operated using a trigger cable. Features include a white light lamp, a red light laser marker, an infrared laser marker and an electrically focusable infrared illuminator, selected through a rotary switch.

The LLM Vario-Ray complements the LLM-01, already widely used by the British military.

Rheinmetall said that acquisition of Vario-Ray, called the "Laser-Light Module Mark 3" by Britain's military, is part of a comprehensive program to modernize the British infantry.

Additional contract details were not disclosed.
