Kongsberg wins system support work

KONGSBERG, Norway, Dec. 4 (UPI) -- Norway's Kongsberg Group reports it has been contracted to provide support, maintenance and upgrades to its systems aboard Royal Norwegian Navy combat vessels.

The work, under a framework agreement with the Norwegian Defense Logistics Organization, is for six years beginning Jan. 1 and is worth nearly $27 million.

"This is an important milestone for both the RNoN and Kongsberg," the company said. "The framework agreement contributes to secure a coordinated and effective maintenance of all systems delivered by Kongsberg onboard the Nansen-class frigates, Skjold-class corvettes, MCM vessels, Ula-class submarines, other vessels and training centers through their life time."

Work by Kongberg will involve command-and-control systems, navigation systems, sonar systems, NSM missiles and trainers.

Kongsberg said the agreement further strengthens its presence at Haakonsvern Naval Base, where Kongsberg personnel work closely with the Norwegian Navy personnel to service the systems.

Additional details of the agreement were not disclosed.
