Smiths Detection, Optosecurity continue product collaboration

WATFORD, England, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- British firm Smiths Detection and Canada's Optosecurity plan continued collaboration on development and distribution of security checkpoint software technology.

The two companies have signed a memorandum of understanding to further negotiations to reach a formal agreement on developing a new technology solution that would improve checkpoint security while cutting operational costs, Smiths Detection said.

"The [memorandum] demonstrates the strong working relationship that our two companies have developed," Smiths Detection Vice President of Products Rod Wilson said. "The agreement will eventually leverage our global base of checkpoint products -- including X-rays, trace detectors, full body screening devices, and bottle screeners for liquid explosives -- with Optosecurity's advanced technology solutions, software development, and rapid implementation capabilities."

The memorandum follows a cooperation agreement signed last year for a detection software product. The solution, called Optoscreener, allows for detection of liquid explosives when it is combined with Smiths Detection checkpoint X-ray systems.
