Thales wins avionics support contract

NEUILLY-SUR-SEINE, France, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Avionics systems on French military aircraft are to receive technical, logistics and through-life support from Thales, the company said.

The systems are on 750 aircraft of 25 types -- such as Gazelles, Mirage 2000s, Pumas and Tigers -- and work will involve managing more than 800 listed items of equipment.

Thales said the SILOUET 3 (1) contract was issued by SIMMAD, an organization within the Ministry of Defense that is in charge of through-life support for aeronautical equipment.

The contract is for five years and carries a maximum value of about $153.5 million.

"SILOUET 3 is based on a fixed price per hour of flight, which provides the flexibility to adapt to operational requirements as the number of flight hours increases or decreases and as fleet formats evolve," Thales said. "Support operations will be managed both by product family across all platform types, and by fleet."

The aircraft covered by the contract are expected to log a total of 700,000 flight hours over the contract's term.
