MONTREAL, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- CAE, an aviation modeling and simulation company headquartered in Canada, reports it has received $140 million in new military contracts from the United States and others.
Contracts issued by the U.S. Air Force are worth $85 million, with options worth an additional $50 million over five years.
The USAF awards were to subsidiary CAE USA and include a fourth-year option for KC-135 aircrew for continued classroom and simulator instruction and additional training support services as new KC-135 boom operator weapon systems trainers are incorporated into the overall KC-135 training program.
A number of contract modifications were issued for the upgrade of KC-135 operational flight trainers and courseware, the company said.
"Our position on enduring platforms like the KC-135 tanker, and various military transport aircraft and helicopters continues to yield opportunities for CAE in the United States and abroad, particularly as our defense and security customers look to leverage simulation for an increasing portion of their training curriculum," said Gene Colabattisto, CAE Group president, Military Products and Training and Services. "These contracts with multiyear options enhance our visibility in an otherwise hard to predict defense environment."
CAE's German subsidiary, CAE Elektronik GmbH, was awarded contracts to upgrade full-mission simulators for Tornado aircraft operated by the German Air Force.
CAE said it also received a contract from an unidentified customer to design and manufacture a military helicopter full-mission simulator.
