MELBOURNE, Fla., Sept. 19 (UPI) -- The U.S. Air Force has ordered more Falcon III AN/PRC-117G multi-band manpack and AN/PRC-152A multi-band handheld radio systems from Harris Corp.
Harris said the orders for the Joint Tactical Radio Systems for ground-to-ground and ground-to-air communications is worth $38 million. The number of radios to be provided and their delivery schedule, however, were not disclosed.
"Harris' Falcon III radios provide secure voice communications and enable operators to send and receive images, video, emails, text messages and even participate in teleconferences," said George Helm, president of U.S. Department of Defense business for Harris RF Communications.
"The Air Force is deploying our JTRS-certified radios to provide two-channel communication capabilities. JTRS-certified wideband networking allows users to connect seamlessly to the Global Information Grid, a secure, classified version of the Internet."
The Falcon III integrates line-of-sight, beyond-line-of-sight and wideband communications capabilities. They are used by all branches of the U.S. military as well as the militaries of 15 allied countries.
