General Dynamics names Gen. Mattis to its board

FALLS CHURCH, Va., Aug. 9 (UPI) -- Two retired U.S. military generals and a retired senior official of the Department of Homeland Security have joined private-sector enterprises.

Retired Marine Corps Gen. James N. Mattis, former head of the U.S. Central Command, was elected to the board of directors of General Dynamics while retired Air Force Brig. Gen. Charles W. Collier was elected to the board of directors of the Spectrum Group.

James M. Chaparro, the former DHS deputy undersecretary and assistant director of intelligence of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, joined Strategic Enterprise Solutions Inc. as executive vice president of strategy.

Prior to his appointment as commander of Central Command, which is in charge of Afghanistan operations, Mattis was commander of the U.S. Joint Forces Command.

"Jim Mattis is a visionary and an inspiring leader who is renowned for his wisdom, courage and integrity," said Phebe N. Novakovic, chairman and chief executive officer of General Dynamics. "General Dynamics is honored to have him join our board."

The Spectrum Group, a Virginia-headquartered consulting group, said Collier brings nearly 40 years of national security expertise to the company as well as experience in the private sector as a consultant.

"Chuck adds a unique dimension to the extensive capabilities of The SPECTRUM Group's consulting arm," said retired Navy Vice Adm. Stephen Loftus,TSG's chairman and chief executive officer. "His deep knowledge of future warfighting requirements for the Air National Guard and domestic operations response equipment requirements for the National Guard will be an important asset to our defense industry clients."

At Strategic Enterprise Solutions, DHS veteran Chaparro will help the company with its strategic direction and focus on homeland security missions.
