USAF seeks new ICBM erector vehicles

ARLINGTON, Va., June 5 (UPI) -- Two Transporter Erector replacement vehicles to support the U.S. Air Force's fleet of Minuteman III missiles are being built by DRS Technologies.

The Transporter Erector is for transporting, positioning and removing the Minuteman III booster at launch facilities in Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, Utah and California.

DRS said if all options of the contract are exercised, 26 new Transporter Erector vehicles will be built for a total contract value of more than $96 million.

"DRS will draw upon its 40 years of experience with system engineering, design and production of mission-critical mobile shelters and transport trailers for the military" for the design and build, said Roger Sexauer, president of DRS Power and Environmental Systems.

DRS said the vehicles to support the intercontinental ballistic missiles in the current order will be used in system qualifications testing, which is scheduled to begin in 2015.

The Air Force replacement program is being overseen by the Air Force Global Strike Command.
