CANBERRA, Australia, May 10 (UPI) -- A subsidiary of U.S. company L-3 Communications is to supply satellite terminals to Australia's military.
Australian Minister for Defense Materiel Mike Kelly said L-3 Oceania was given two contracts for supply and servicing of the equipment.
The first contract is for acquire 51 terminals, 30 deployment kits, spares and test equipment. The award carries a value of nearly $32 million.
"A separate performance based in-service support contract will provide integrated logistics support, engineering services, supply support services, maintenance services and training at a value of around $7 million over three years," Kelly said.
L-3 Oceania was selected through an open tender process for a military-off-the-shelf solution certified for use on the Wideband Global Satellite System.
Kelly said the terminals are part of a project to expand the use of the Wideband Global Satellite system by Australian forces.
The equipment is expected to be delivered next year.
