ROCKVILLE, Md., April 23 (UPI) -- The Chief Information Office of the U.S. Department of Defense is to receive support services from Lockheed Martin for improved sharing of secure information.
Lockheed Martin said its work under the 5-year award includes responsibility for information equipment, software development tools and services to support information assurance, and management to create a "seamless, secure Joint Information Environment" with enhanced capabilities.
"More than 26 years ago, Lockheed Martin helped write the (Defense Department) Architecture Framework, under which the Department of Defense operates today," said Willie Callahan, vice president of Data, Analytics and Services with Lockheed Martin Information Systems and Global Solutions.
"Under this contract, we will be the policy support for a next generation of projects being infused into the Department of Defense."
The contract has a ceiling value of $217 million.
The Chief Information Office sets policy and standards for the department's information infrastructure.
