TRIESTE, Italy, Jan. 9 (UPI) -- Two new vessels for the navy of the United Arab Emirates have been delivered by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri.
The vessels were an Abu Dhabi class corvette, which was launched in 2011, and a patrol boat launched early last year.
"Exemplifying Fincantieri's product excellence, both vessels stand out for their high level of flexibility in being able to carry out different types of mission in national and international waters -- from patrol and surveillance, to defense against air and surface threats and attack against both land and sea targets -- as well as for their high standards of accommodation and safety," Fincantieri said.
The vessels were delivered in a formal ceremony at the company's shipyard in Muggiano, Italy.
The corvette is 288.7 feet long and has a full load displacement of 1,650 tons. The vessel has a speed of up to 25 knots and a range of more than 3,000 nautical miles at 14 knots.
The patrol boat has a speed of more than 20 knots. It is 180.4 feet long and features a stealth design.
