WASHINGTON, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- The government of Qatar is seeking to procure Patriot anti-missile missile systems from the United States under a Foreign Military Sales deal.
The U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency, in its notification to Congress, said the Patriot package requested would be worth an estimated $9.9 billion.
The Patriot request comes on the heels of Qatar recently asking Washington for two Terminal High Altitude Area Defense missile systems at a cost of $6.5 billion.
DSCA said the Patriot package would include 11 Patriot Configuration-3 Modernized Fire Units; 11 AN/MPQ-65 radar sets; 11 AN/MSQ-132 engagement control systems, 30 antenna mast groups; 44 M902 launching stations, 246 Patriot MIM-104E Guidance Enhanced Missile-TBM with canisters; two Patriot MIM-104E GEM-T test missiles, 768 Patriot Advanced Capability 3 missiles with canisters; and 10 PAC-3 test missiles with canisters.
Also to be supplied: 11 electrical power plants; eight multifunctional information distribution systems/low volume terminals; and communications equipment.
Personnel training and logistics support would also be part of the deal in which Raytheon and Lockheed Martin would be prime contractors.
