NEW YORK, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- The Security and Detection Systems division of L-3 Communications is to provide the U.S. Transportation Security Administration with advanced imaging systems.
The second-generation system to be supplied under an indefinite-delivery/ indefinite-quantity contract is the company's new Provision 2 system.
"Provision 2 is a reduced-size personnel screening system that provides the same image-free threat detection capabilities and safe millimeter wave technology as the widely deployed ProVision ATD system," L-3 Communications said.
"The ProVision 2 detects metallic and non-metallic objects, such as weapons, explosives and other targets. Reduced-sized systems provide an alternative to full-size systems, helping to reduce the overall footprint for smaller checkpoint configurations."
The contract is worth as much as $245 million. Additional details of the Transportation Security Administration award for the Provision 2 system, which will be used in screening of airline passenger, were not immediately available.
L-3 Communications is a prime contractor in C3ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) systems field.
