ATK continues running of ammunition plant

ARLINGTON, Va., Oct. 3 (UPI) -- ATK reports it is to continue production of small-arms ammunition for the U.S. Army as well as operate an Army ammunition plant.

The Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, in Independence, Mo., produces 5.56mm; 7.62mm; .50-caliber and 20mm rounds. ATK has run the plant since 2001. In addition to production of ammunition, it also performs ammunition and weapon testing.

The new contract, including options, is for 10 years. The monetary value of the award wasn't disclosed.
