RESTON, Va., July 31 (UPI) -- Integrated communications systems on U.S. military vehicles in theater are to be enhanced by Serco Inc., a technology, and management services company.
Under a $73 million indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity award to support the U.S. Department of Defense Joint Program Office, Serco will upgrade the command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems on Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles in Afghanistan, Kuwait and Qatar.
The upgrades will enable troops to stay connected through the interoperability of ground-based and airborne equipment.
In addition to upgrading the systems, Serco will also provide on-site sustainment and maintenance support services for the systems, which are operated on MRAPs of the Air Force, Army, Marine Corps and Navy.
The contract, awarded under the U.S. Navy's SPAWAR Global C4ISR Installation vehicle, is for 15 months -- a 9-month base period and a 6-month option period.
