$8M tactical radio order for Harris

MELBOURNE, Fla., July 26 (UPI) -- An $8 million order for beyond-line-of-sight tactical radios has been received by the Harris Corp. from an unidentified Middle Eastern country.

The radios to be supplied by Harris are the Falcon II RF-5800H, high-frequency manpack units which feature integrated data link protocols and embedded Global Positioning System.

"The RF-5800H delivers highly reliable and secure communications even in the most challenging mission environments, such as mountains and urban areas,'' said Brendan O'Connell, president of International Business, Harris RF Communications.

"We have delivered more than 100,000 Falcon II HF manpack radios (to customers worldwide), which provide security forces with long-distance voice and data links that lead to enhanced situational awareness and command and control."

Harris said procurement of the radio system is part of an ongoing tactical radio modernization program of the country.
