GenDyn producing more Aegis components

CHARLOTTE, N.C., June 7 (UPI) -- General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products will continue production of Aegis anti-missile system illuminator components for the U.S Navy.

The work comes under a $6.9 million modification to a contract from the Naval Sea Systems Command, which was previously modified in March of last year.

Under the new modification, the company will continue production of MK82 gun and guided missile directors and MK200 director controllers for Aegis Combat System illuminators. The MK 82 and MK 200 position the Aegis fire control system antenna to illuminate the target, while the director controller MK 200 produces the signals that position the director.

Work under the modification will be performed at a company facility in Vermont; deliveries are to be completed by June 2013. The MK82 directors and MK200 director controllers will be installed aboard ships built under the restart of the DDG 51 shipbuilding program.

The modification brings the total contract value of the contract to $29.5 million.
