ORLANDO, Fla., May 8 (UPI) -- Lockheed Martin has been picked by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to provide support services for the agency's Tactical Communications program.
The contract awarded is an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity award with a base period of two years, plus three one-year options. A total of 30 companies are eligible under the award to compete for task orders, but Lockheed Martin is only one of five firms eligible to compete for work in all five core categories of the TACCOM program.
"Protecting national security requires good tactical communication for situational awareness and coordination," said June Shrewsbury, vice president of technical services within Lockheed Martin's Global Training and Logistics business. "Lockheed Martin has the ability to offer the most effective and efficient equipment and deliver this affordable capability rapidly through the TACCOM program."
The TACCOM program enables DHS to procure tactical equipment engineering, operations and maintenance services.
The ceiling value of the contract for all awardees is about $3 billion if all options are exercised.
