PATUXENT RIVER NAVAL AIR STATION, Md., March 2 (UPI) -- The U.S. Navy is seeking to upgrade its unmanned aerial vehicle systems with a series of contracts to three U.S. companies.
Officials of the Naval Air Systems Command at Patuxent River Naval Air Station are seeking defense contractors to provide off-the-shelf UAVs and support for global intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions worldwide under a 5-year contract, which could total as much as $874 million.
Naval Air Systems Command announced Thursday that officials at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station are awarding indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contracts to AAI Corp. in Hunt Valley, Md.; CSC in Falls Church, Va.; and Insitu Inc. in Bingen, Wash., to upgrade Navy UAV ISR services for both sea- and land-based UAV ISR operations.
The contracts include personnel, off-the-shelf UAVs for ISR missions, operations and maintenance and spare parts for global UAV ISR operations until 2017.
AAI, CSC and Insitu Inc. will compete for new UAV support contracts as the Navy issues them.
There is a division of operations, as AAI and Insitu Inc. can compete for land- and sea-based operations, while CSC can compete solely for land-based UAV ISR operations before the current contract expires in February 2017.
