EDGEWOOD, Md., Feb. 2 (UPI) -- Smiths Detection reports its mobile weather information systems will be used by U.S. Marines to support mission planning and operations.
The order for additional METMF NEXGEN systems was made by the U.S. Navy for use by the Marines' Air Ground Task Force and worth $9 million.
"We have provided sophisticated meteorological systems to the military for more than 60 years," said Smiths Detection Vice President for Sales Bob Bohn.
"Smiths Detection's advanced technology and integration experience, coupled with an intimate understanding of customer needs, allows us to deliver a maximum-value solution that provides the optimum environmental picture of a battle space."
The systems are mounted on a truck and provide tactical meteorological support by continuous observations, satellite imagery and forecasts within minutes, the company said.
Smiths Detection said the systems ordered by the Navy will be delivered by next year.
