RIDLEY TOWNSHIP, Pa., Jan. 11 (UPI) -- Australia and the United Arab Emirates are to receive U.S. CH-47F helicopters from the United States through foreign military sales contracts.
Boeing said it was awarded a contract by the U.S. Army for 13 of the helicopters for the two countries, plus one for the Army itself.
The award is worth about $370 million, it said, and delivery of the aircraft begins in 2014.
"This new aircraft sale brings our Chinook backlog to more than 200 aircraft for both domestic and international customers worldwide," said Leanne Caret, H-47 programs vice president. "Boeing's recent $130 million investment to create a world-class Chinook manufacturing facility near Philadelphia means we are well positioned to respond to this demand."
Australia is receiving seven of the helos and the U.A.E. six.
Boeing said it is now halfway through an earlier multiyear contract for 191 CH-47Fs, and last November tendered an offer to the U.S. government to built 155 more for the Army.
