ARLINGTON, Va., March 31 (UPI) -- Qwest Communications of Virginia announced it has received a contract that will position it as the sole Internet Provider Service for U.S military services.
The multiyear task order award was given by the U.S. Defense Information Systems Agency and Defense Information Technology Contracting Organization.
The value of the award is more than $100 million.
Under the contract, Qwest Government Services will provide Internet Protocol Services to the U.S. Department of Defense as it migrates to Networx, the largest government communications contract program ever developed by the U.S. General Services Administration.
When the task order is fully implemented, Qwest will be the sole provider of IPS, which is based on Qwest's iQ Internet Service, for the U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Marines and U.S. Navy and other Department of Defense agencies.
"Qwest is a longtime communications partner of the Defense Department," said Diana Gowen, senior vice president and general manager of Qwest Government Services. "We are pleased that through this task order Qwest will continue its relationship with the Department of Defense to provide advanced data services, which are crucial components of our nation's defense systems."
Additional details of the contract and work to be performed weren't disclosed.
