Raytheon contracted for missile support

WASHINGTON, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- The U.S. Defense Department has announced a $57.1 million contract modification to Arizona's Raytheon Missile Systems.

The contract modification is for support and technical engineering tasks needed to support production the Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile not directly associated with the manufacture of missile hardware.

The Department of Defense said the tasks include missile improvement, support equipment improvement, software engineering and improvement, reliability monitoring, system safety monitoring, quality assurance, risk management, test equipment, parts control, obsolete materials, manufacturing qualification, logistics impacts and other activities needed to support the engineering of an effective ESSM missile for NATO and the United Arab Emirates.

The NATO Sea Sparrow consortium -- the United States, Australia, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, and Turkey -- will fund the effort under the contract modification.
